My name is Renée Fitzgerald and I started this company purely by accident. I have a 9 year old Black Lab, named Jeter that is HIGHLY allergic to fleas. We had been using the “spot-on” flea treatment forever.
About 4 years ago we put the drops on him and about 15 minutes later he was lying on the floor lethargic and listless. I instinctively grabbed the dish soap and started rubbing it on the area that we had just applied the “spot-on” treatment to break up the oil. My husband carried him outside and together we tried to wash it all off. Jeter lived through that experience, but I felt like I was going to die. When we got home from the vet, I did a frantic search for a natural source to kill and/or repel fleas. I found several things. I had several “recipes” that I tried, they didn’t work. I bought him several “natural” flea repellents, they didn’t work. I was at my wits’ end!
One Sunday we were walking through a flea market (no pun intended) and found a booth that was selling “natural, organic, non toxic” flea killer, Diatomaceous Earth (Food Grade) by Perma-Guard®. I took a pamphlet and read about it as we walked. I went back to speak to the couple that was selling it and they offered us a free sample. I decided that I wanted to use it on all of my pets, cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens and goats, so we bought a 4 # bag.
When we got home my husband dusted ALL of the animals with the D.E. I went back on the internet to find out more about this Diatomaceous Earth. That’s when I found SO much more information that I decided that I wanted to use D.E. for all the other things! And that’s how it all started!
